Us.

US is a participatory public art installation commissioned by the City of Sydney as a part of their Art and About public art program.

The work consists of a temporary outdoor photo studio in the heart of Sydney. People passing by are invited to be part of a formal group photo with fellow strangers. A surly photographer instructed each group to arrange themselves from tallest to shortest, place hands behind their backs or fists on knees. And, of course, smile.

6435 people were photographed over 17 days with people queuing over an hour. Once your picture is taken, you receive your own printed, signed and numbered copy to take home. Each booklet also lists the names of your fellow members.

The work has been responsible for a recent marriage.
