I Wish You Hadn’t Asked

I WISH YOU HADN’T ASKED is a site-specific immersive public installation commissioned by Sculpture by the Sea, Aarhus, Denmark.

The work comprises of a furnished family home which rains within. Over an exhibition period of thirty days the work markedly changes mood, as every minute two hundred litres of water rains down on the interior. The public are invited to put on a raincoat and walk through the environ.

The work received a royal audience from King Frederick and Queen Mary of Denmark. The work was awarded the Major Art Prize and the Nordea Bank Foundation Award.

The work was subsequently commissioned by the City of Sydney as a part of the Art and About public art program. The work was exhibited and open to the public, raining for 42 days.

“Along with my fellow citizens of Aarhus, I found ‘the raining house’ both entertaining and intriguing, but at the same time my memory of it brings an appalling sense of decay - a sense of trauma and a touch of sadness. Since what was being asked remains unanswered, and as questions keep appearing, the house continues to haunt - several months after it has disappeared”
